My prayers answered, my heart humbled, my soul rejoices….to all of you who have loved a dog enough to give Daisy your time, effort, prayers, advice, resources, I thank you. I am inspired by your faith that Daisy could and would survive and that we could and would find her!
As Chris was placing food on the Bob Godfrey property, he saw a movement out of the corner of his eye. Instead of rushing over, making eye contact or any sudden movement, he walked away. Then he started talking softly to her. He circled around her. He opened his back pack and doggie treats to make lots of familiar sounds. When he finally did glance over at her, she simply lifted her head up and then flopped down. She was so weak! Chris slowly approached her, put a leash on her, then carried her to the car. Off to the vet they went, where she was given antibiotics for the ticks, deworming, and plucked off too many ticks to count. It appears that she has an injury to her left hind leg, perhaps where she had been hit by the car. She has many abrasions and weighs 34 lbs (previously 56lbs). I have never seen a thinner dog…..
She came home and recognized Penny (our 15lb mutt) her home, her back yard. She has had a bath and is enjoying the indoors.
She is sleeping in her kennel, with her new toys, and there is a collective sigh of relief all across Georgia!
I know she will need nutritional support and suggestions for rehabilitation are appreciated. You all are amazing!
“All is well, with my soul”
Chris (owner) found her laying in the woods. He has taken her to the vet.
Words cannot express how overjoyed we are! Please let her be okay!
Update from Lauren:
There are more pink flyers in the plastic box along with a more targeted map and a list of street names that need flyers.
We are putting a feeding station at 120 Greyfriars where she has been seen twice by Tom. Chris has talked to Tom in detail about the sightings and we feel confident it is Daisy.
My heartfelt thanks to all who searched and handed out flyers and prayed today!
Lauren’s home address: 1501 Hickory Hill Drive, Watkinsville, GA 30677
Update from Kathy:
I spoke with the tracker in NC today. He actually is near Raleigh and a good 7 hours away. He typically does not come into this area. It would end up being an overnight trip for him so for his costs, it would run about $1000. He kept apologizing for the quote. Seems like a super nice guy. He comes highly recommended. I asked him if there’s anyone locally or at least closer that he would recommend. He said there are quite a few folks in the area but none that he would feel comfortable in recommending.
He then called me back tonight with some ideas he has used in the past:
He said last year in his area, they actually found a lost greyhound that had been living around a dumpster. He suggested that folks check any dumpsters for stores or restaurants (especially Chinese) in about a 3 mile area of her sightings. I told him she had travelled 7 miles from home for far. He said he was not surprised.
He also talked to me about doing a search grid once we have narrowed down the area where she is. When we get to a point where we comfortable about what area she is currently in, we can talk about doing that, but he said it requires LOTS of people. He suggested a church or civic group. Those kinds of groups are usually looking for money for their group and often times for $200 will have lots of folks come out to help. Just something to file away.
Also, tonight at our club meeting, we collected donations so that we could place another FindToto.com order for another 525 homes to be called in the Greenfriars Rd area. Hopefully this will generate some more sightings so more feeding stations can be established and then the live traps set.
Amanda will be placing a new ad in the Athens paper tomorrow.
I emailed the registered agent for the closed Green Hills Country Club to get permission to access the property. Waiting on an answer.
Lauren and Pat Brown will get together about the Lost Daisy signs.
Update from Russ on an additional sighting in the area:
Leaving the area tonight I did a swing through the neighborhood to the south of Barnett Shoals and at 1220 Barnett Ridge. I talked to a gentleman that said he saw a Greyhound a few days back in his neighborhood and he was sure it was a Greyhound because he thought, what was a Greyhound doing around here. I asked him if it could have been a young deer, and he said no it was a Greyhound. Now it was before the sightings on Greyfriars Rd and to the south of Barnett Rd but it gives me hope that she may be staying in the same general area. I only had a few flyers and was out of them before I met the guy on Barnett Ridge but I think we should blanket both areas with flyers and maybe walk the river bank near the bridge. Dave and I walked the river near the north end of Greyfriars Rd and saw no signs of tracks but the river is a common path between both sightings. I also talked to the UPS driver and gave him my last flyer. I do think we are close to finding her.
There’s a country club (Green Hills Country Club) near Daisy’s latest sighting. We called their phone, and it appears that they are out of business.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with the property owner or manager for the Green Hills Country Club? We understand it is overgrown now, and it might be a really good place for a greyhound on the run to hide.
If you are available to help search the area, please mobilize.
Sightings map is also updated with location of latest marker!
Update from Chris and Lauren, Wednesday night:
Today we received a call from a resident of Greyfriars Road (120 Greyfriars). We spoke with him to clarify some details. He saw Daisy the mornings of July 16 and 17 on Greyfriars, walking toward Barnett Shoals. He grew up near a greyhound race track in FL and is certain that it was a greyhound and not a neighborhood dog who resembles Daisy. After talking with him, we think this is a high probability sighting.
He is very agreeable to setting up a feeding station on his property. His house is near Barnett Shoals and he is worried about Daisy crossing the road.
This evening we placed 100+ flyers on: Greyfriars, Hickory Pointe (to power lines), Barnett Ridge, Barnet Road, Barnet Place, Golf Course Lane.
We will go to look for Daisy tomorrow morning and hope to sight her.
